Brother Francis (now Fr Frank Bertagnolli)
… assembled with about 70 Sunshine boys on the ramp of the wooden Bendigo platform. Fr Edward Power appointed Br Francis (in
‘practical training’) as the first College Station Master. Br Francis, would put out his hand to stop the train.
The driver would not leave the station until Br Francis again would wave the all clear once all students were safely inside
or outside.

The crossing
was of zig-zag style whereby only a small group of students could cross at a time. If the Bendigo
train was heard to be coming down the cutting in haste, Br Francis would halt any line crossing until it passed.
